General
The “Fitness and Propriety” visualisation within Corterum shows the firm’s requirement to perform fit and proper testing on its in-scope staff over a 1-month, 3-month, 6-month and 9-month time horizon.
Within the graph, the bar for each month is broken down into four segments:
Blue – Conduct Rules Staff/Ancillary Staff (in other words, staff who are NOT subject to fit and proper testing at all).
Grey – Incomplete dataset (in other words, the Corterum system does not have sufficient information to properly classify the member(s) of staff within the segment).
Green – Fit and proper assessments for the members of staff appearing within this segment are NOT required within the applicable timescale.
Red – Fit and proper assessments for the members of staff appearing within this segment ARE required within the applicable timescale.
If you hover your mouse over a segment, you will see that the name of the individual members of staff making up this segment are displayed on screen.
Why do we break each bar into these FOUR segments?
Each bar of the chart is broken into four segments in order to give users of the Corterum system additional insight into certain aspects of the SM&CR compliance. Each segment is discussed in more detail below.
Blue – Conduct Rules Staff and Ancillary Staff are NOT subject to fit and proper testing. However, more generally, it is important to properly classify ALL staff for the purposes of the SM&CR. This segment gives administrators the ability to confirm quickly whether all members of staff have been correctly classified within the system.
Grey – The Corterum system is effectively telling administrators that it does not have sufficient information to properly classify staff members within the grey segment of each bar. This in itself is important information given that firms must ensure that staff are properly classified for purposes of the SM&CR. The grey segment readily highlights to administrators the staff about whom they need to pay more attention in this regard.
Green – It is useful to know, for those staff who are subject to fit and proper testing, exactly when an assessment must occur. Staff in the green segment of a bar DO NOT require fit and proper testing within the relevant timescale.
Red – It is useful to know, for those staff who are subject to fit and proper testing, exactly when an assessment occur. Staff in the red segment of a bar DO require fit and proper testing within the relevant timescale.
Each segment of a bar provides different information
Individual segments can be removed from a bar by clicking on the slider underneath the visualisation.
Remove a segment by clicking on the slider
Clicking on a segment causes a second ‘breakdown’ visualisation to appear. This indicates – with respect to the staff members within the segment of the bar that has been clicked – which of those staff members are Senior Managers and which are Certification Staff.
If you hover your mouse above a segment of the ‘breakdown’ visualisation, you will see that the name of the individual members of staff making up this segment are displayed on screen.

Where does the information come from?
It is important to know the exact data points the Corterum system relies upon in order to create its visualisations. Only if this is completed properly and completely will users benefit fully from the visualisation. The table below details the data points used to create and populate the Fitness and Propriety visualisation.
Dataset | Field | Explanation |
Fitness and Propriety Assessment Record | F&P expiry date | The date within this field is used to determine when the next F&P assessment must be performed for the individual in question. |
Staff Information | Senior Manager? | This toggle is used within the secondary pie chart which is displayed if a user clicks on one of the bars in the main bar chart. It helps users to determine whether upcoming F&P assessments relate to Senior Managers or Certification Staff. |
Staff Information | Certification Staff? | This toggle is used within the secondary pie chart which is displayed if a user clicks on one of the bars in the main bar chart. It helps users to determine whether upcoming F&P assessments relate to Senior Managers or Certification Staff. |
Staff Information | Conduct rules staff? | This toggle is used within the main bar chart to identify members of staff who are subject to the Conduct Rules only. Remember - F&P assessments DO NOT need to be performed on Conduct Rules staff. |
